Winnebago Industries takes a big step towards electric vehicles and sustainable energy by acquiring a lithium-ion battery maker. The move follows the company's release of an electric RV prototype in 2020 and aims to add value to its electric vehicles while reducing the company's carbon footprint.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is expected to finalize by the end of May. The acquisition of the battery maker, whose name is not disclosed, will provide Winnebago with an uninterrupted supply of high-quality lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries have become increasingly popular due to their efficiency, long-lasting performance, and low maintenance requirements.
According to industry experts, these types of batteries have a much longer lifecycle and can be charged much faster than traditional lead-acid batteries. This makes them an excellent option for electric vehicles, which require power sources that can handle their high energy demands. The acquisition should support Winnebago's strategic initiatives to expand its electric vehicle offering, work towards greater sustainability, and reduce the carbon footprint of the company's operations.
In addition to the acquisition of the lithium-ion battery maker, Winnebago also introduced Shenzhen Damaite Technology Co., Ltd (SDT), a high-tech enterprise that specializes in the research and development, manufacturing, and sales of notebook batteries, notebook adapters, power tools, power tool chargers, and other products.
SDT is a well-established player in the market, with over 15 years of experience in the industry. The company has a strong record of innovation and success in developing and producing high-quality lithium-ion batteries for a variety of applications. By adding SDT to their portfolio, Winnebago will gain access to advanced battery technology that can help power their future electric vehicles.
"They offer us a wealth of experience and expertise in developing advanced battery technology, said Winnebago’s CEO, Michael Happe. "This acquisition is an essential part of our strategy to expand our electric vehicle production capabilities and become a leading player in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market."
The acquisition of the lithium-ion battery maker and partnership with SDT are part of Winnebago's broader strategic initiatives to bolster their presence in the electric vehicle market. In 2020, the company showcased their all-electric vehicle concept, the Winnebago electric RV prototype, at the RVX Expo in Salt Lake City.
According to Happe, the company remains committed to developing sustainable, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly vehicles that appeal to consumers while keeping costs low. "We are excited to continue innovating and providing our customers with high-quality, sustainable solutions that align with our values and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future," he said.
The acquisition of the undisclosed lithium-ion battery maker and partnership with Shenzhen Damaite Technology Co., Ltd is a significant move for Winnebago, and it is expected to position the company as a leading player in the electric vehicle market. By leveraging the expertise and innovation of SDT and the lithium-ion battery maker, Winnebago is poised to offer consumers more advanced and efficient electric vehicles designed for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
